With the 2020 College Season in the books, teams are looking ahead to getting back on campus and gearing up for the 2021 Campaign. This offseason will be like no other for the College of Staten Island. They are making the leap from DIII to DII. The Dolphins are members of the East Coast Conference that includes: New York Tech, Molloy College, University of Bridgeport, St. Thomas Aquinas, Queens College, Lincoln University (PA), and Mercy College. The Dolphins are led by Head Coach Michael Mauro, whom will be entering his 13th year at the helm in 2021. He has an overall record of 260-176-1 and a CUNYAC Conference Record of 82-22. In 2019, the Dolphins suffered their first losing season since 2009 (which was Mauro’ 1st season with the College).
As with any season there are adjustments for teams, players, and coaches. The move to DII Baseball and to the ECC Conference will be a tough one. But if anyone can do it, the Dolphins can. They have enjoyed a great deal of success in Mauro’ time at the helm. Staten Island a whole has great talent and now moving to the DII ranks they will be able to keep those star players that they may have lost over the years due to players wanting to play at a higher level. They have also added some talented recruits: RHP/INF Jacob Jimenez (Grand Street Campus) and OF Randy Garcia (Grand Street Campus). Expect CSI to be heavy on the recruiting trail this Summer & Fall, as they work diligently to lock down major pieces and grow the program for their next challenge at the DII Level. Look out for their 2021 Season Preview, coming later this year.
